| Sacraments
Members of our Parish lead the majority of Sacramental Preparation
courses.
Baptism
Baptism preparation classes are given as required to parents,
by a married couple in our parish. The different parts of
the ceremony are explained, with their significance in today's
world. Parents and godparents are made aware of what they
are undertaking and the commitment to a Christian life.
Explanations are given for the different oils used, the rite
of clothing with the white garment and the light of the baptismal
candle entrusted to the parents.
Baptism times are arranged with the parish priest.

Reconciliation
(First Confession)
First Holy Communion
First Confession and First Communion preparation follows the
Alive in His Life course and runs from September to June each
year. The parents of the children are actively involved and
work together to prepare the children, often taking it in
turns to “take” the classes. The children are
usually ready for their First Confession by January, with
First Holy Communion taking place in June. The whole parish
joins in the celebrating. |

Confirmation
In accordance with the Diocese of Leeds guidelines, our youth are
invited to join the next Confirmation preparation course after they
have reached the age of 13 (school year 9). We have a course every
2 or 3 years dependent upon the numbers of young people coming forward
for preparation.
Some of the preparation sessions take place after the Youth Mass
on a Sunday evening and act as a revision session for the other
youth. The other sessions are held at times and venues agreed between
all those taking part.
Often the Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred at one of the
churches in Huddersfield, the deanery to which our parish belongs.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
If you are interested in learning more about the Catholic
Faith, the RCIA is primarily a journey of faith, and part of the
first steps towards learning more about how Catholics live their
faith.
People come for many reasons with different backgrounds, and the
Sacred Heart would welcome anyone who wishes to find out more. Courses
are tailored to fit in with you. Those who progress through the
full journey are welcomed into the Catholic Church during the Easter
Vigil.
| Marriage
Throughout the year many couples receive the sacrament of
marriage at the Sacred Heart. As recommended, Marriage Preparation
courses are offered. Our parish priest Fr Joe meets the couples
regularly. In addition one session is taken by 2 parishioners,
providing a different perspective (one is a GP and one works
for Relate)
The couples are surprised how enjoyable and useful they find
the course – indeed probably all couples should take
part in a refresher! |

Anointing of the Sick
Anyone who is going into hospital or who is ill, is asked to let
a member of the Parish know. Visiting of the sick, in hospital or
at home, and taking Communion to the sick is undertaken by parishioners
and Father Joe. |
