The Parish of the Sacred Heart and St William of York, Saddleworth.

The hill and moorland parish of Saddleworth is today a thriving community with a multitude of parish groups and activities. Yet it was founded only 50 years ago, its history shaped by the geography of its isolation.

The parish follows the old Yorkshire boundaries, extending from Springhead to Denshaw and from Greenfield to Austerlands. It also includes the villages of Dobcross, Delph, Diggle, Lydgate, Grasscroft, Grotton, Friezeland and Uppermill.

It has been served by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart since its inception.

Read through the site to find out more about our parish life, clergy, history and traditions.

This Web site has been created by Parishioners, in celebration of our Golden Jubilee. The theme of the Final Mass of the Jubilee – Hope – celebrated on Youth Sunday 23 November 2003, has been reflected throughout this site, as we hope that by reading through this site you can see the vibrant Catholic community that we are. The Young People of our Parish have been actively involved in both the Final Mass and the ideas behind this Web site.
