Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213)
We welcome all those seeking Catholic baptism to the family of our church. For adult baptism please go to our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) page.
Members of our Parish (trained catechists) visit parents who wish to have their baby or child baptised. We explain the purpose, stages and ceremony of the Sacrament of Baptism and its importance in the spiritual life of their child. We fill in forms for the church baptism register and display photos of the child in church so that the rest of the Parish can pray for the families preparing for baptism.
At Sacred Heart we especially welcome families to join in the spiritual and social life of the church. We have a cycle of family-friendly activities including Family Faith Formation and Liturgy of the Word for Children.
