The Parish of the Sacred Heart
and St William of York, Saddleworth. The
hill and moorland parish of Saddleworth is today a thriving community
with a multitude of parish groups and activities. Yet it was founded
only 50 years ago, its history shaped by the geography of its isolation.
The parish follows the old Yorkshire boundaries, extending from
Springhead to Denshaw and from Greenfield to Austerlands. It also
includes the villages of Dobcross, Delph, Diggle, Lydgate, Grasscroft,
Grotton, Friezeland and Uppermill.
It has been served by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart since
its inception.

history and traditions. |
